Fender Bender Lead to Pre-term Labor

Well, to say the least, yesterday was a interesting way to start the last week of my pregnancy!  I had an in-service (meeting) at the hospital that I will be delivering Caden at for work at 11:00.  When I was done with the meeting I got in my car and as I was pulling out someone clipped the back of my car.  Talk about irony...  I get hit in the labor and delivery parking lot!!!  It was a dark garage that we were in and the jolt shocked me and gave me a little bit of an adrenaline rush.  I jumped out of the car and the woman who had hit me was quite shaken up as well.

She was older, with a handicap sticker in her windshield, and I think I shocked her even more when my nine month pregnant body popped out of the car to help her.  She was crying and apologizing... she even tried to give me her health insurance card instead of her auto insurance.  After all was said and done, we exchanged information, we both calmed down after I gave a reassuring hug and offered to sit with her.

I talked to Nick and he suggested that I call my OBGYN to tell him that the accident had happened, even though I felt fine.  Of course, the office was closed for lunch, and I didn't want to leave a message on the emergency line for something that I would not consider an emergency.    I went on my way, making calls to the insurance company on the way home... I even stopped at the grocery store!

Nick came home early to check on me, and after I had unloaded the groceries and finally put my feet up I got a call from the doctor.  They asked me to come into L&D to get monitored and told me that even though it was a very small accident, that it would be in our best interest to come in for a couple of hours to see how Caden was doing.  The doctor explained that the little jolt could have separated the placenta and could cause an abruption, which would cause Cade to come early and may cause complications with bleeding for me.

So, off we went even though I felt great... I got hooked up to the fetal monitor and who would have guessed that I was having contractions!!!!!!  Umm... NOT ME, because I wasn't even feeling them!!!  They sent me for a sonogram, which was great for Nick and me, because we got to see Cade again!  We were told that everything looked great with him and that his head is measuring at 38 weeks and his body is long and slender and is measuring in at 36.5 weeks... Can you say that this is my husbands child!?!?!?!  Big head, long body!!!  My perinatologist wrote orders up for me to be monitored for two more hours via a fetal monitor to see if my contractions would stop.  He said they may have been caused by the adrenaline rush, and dehydration.

You don't have to tell me how hot I look!!!
We went back down to L&D and my contractions kept growing stronger and my back started hurting.  They decided to admit me and keep me over night... Joy Joy... I was still feeling great and barely feeling any of the contractions.  Nick, as always, was amazing... he stayed with me until he knew my mother was around the corner and then he took off to walk Bailey and pick up some odds and ins from the house that we both needed.

My mom stayed with me until Nick got back around 10:30 last night and then Nick and I tried to get some shut eye, not knowing what today would bring.

During the night I was told I was having contractions about every 8 minutes, and by the time I woke up this morning my back was KILLING me and I was having medium-strong contractions every two minutes.

Dr. Thurston had already written orders to discharge me before my contractions started getting stronger this morning.  He came by to see how I was doing and was shocked!  He then ordered a medication that is meant for asthmatics to relax the smooth muscles in the airway.  He was hoping that it would slow down the uterine contractions.  The shot made me feel like I was on speed, but within thirty minutes my contraction had slowed significantly!

So, to make a long story short, Nick and I are home now!!  We are all hoping that Caden will make it until Monday, but Dr. Thurston said that it is OK if my labor starts again, and that everything will be just fine with Cade :)  My dad and step-mom get in tomorrow, so he needs to wait until then!

If I am to go into labor we will be sending out text messages and emails, so have no fear, you will all be kept in the loop!  Much love!
